Kim Kardishian, Kylie Minogue und Lady Gaga stehen schon lange zeigefreudig zu ihrem Faible für Latex oder PVC. Aber auch vornehme Stars wie Cate Blanchet, Beyoncé oder Heidi Klum platzieren sich dann und wann im hautengen Corsett in Hochglanz auf den Seiten der Top Magazine wie VOGUE oder Harper’s BAZAAR. Der Trend: High Shine!
Fetish Couture, wie ich das ganze nenne oder auch in der VOGUE immer wieder gesehen, also ganz weit weg vom billigen „Sexshop-Look“, sorgte schon in den 90ern für große Furore. Thierry Mugler produzierte mit seiner Monogolie „Fetish Fashion Fantasy“ und seinen Fashionshows per se einen großen Aufschrei am Modehimmel. Er steht bis heute für einen Meilenstein in der Fashionwelt. Wer erinnert sich nicht an das Topmodel Eva Herzigova im transparenten Kleid mit Spitzeneinsätzen und Wespentaille?! So konzipiert Mugler bis heute in seinen Events erotische Anmutung mit Materialien aus Latex, PVC oder Neopren und ist dafür legendär.
Fetish Couture Designer
Vivienne Westwood beeinflusste mit ihren provozierenden und exzentrischen Entwürfen die internationale Modewelt nachhaltig. Zusammen mit Malcolm McLaren , Kunststudent und Kopf der „Sex Pistols“, eröffnete sie in den 60ern einen Store in London. Sie verkauften unter anderem Fetischware wie Latex-Wäsche, gelöcherte T-Shirts oder Strapse. Westwood begann dann selbst Mode zu entwerfen. So kreierte sie beispielsweise Kleidung mit Reißverschlüssen an ungewöhnlichen Platzierungen oder Negligés aus Gummi mit Perlenglanz. Auch fertigte sie die Bühnenkleidung für die Mitglieder der „Sex Pistols“. Im Juni 2004 wurde Vivienne Westwood im Rahmen des „World Woman’s Award“ in Hamburg von Michail Gorbatschow mit dem „World Fashion Award“ ausgezeichnet. Von Prinz Charles wurde der Designerin im Juni 2006 der Titel „Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire“ (DBE) verliehen.
Christian Louboutin schlich sich als Junge gerne in die Pariser Varietes und bewunderte die Tänzerinnen. Heute ist er der Schöpfer der begehrtesten Schuhe der Welt. Als elfjähriger Junge besuchte er in Paris das „Museum für afrikanische und ozeanische Kunst“. Das Hinweisschild, das die Museumsbesucherinnen darauf aufmerksam machen sollte, mit ihren hohen Absätzen nicht den Fussboden zu zerkratzen, weckte wohl seine Faszination für Damenschuhe. Louboutin prägte sich die Form des abgebildeten Stilettos ein und eine lebenslange Liebe war geboren. Vielleicht macht diese besondere Liebe diesen Schuh zu einem It-piece, einem Statement.
Fashion soll erotisch sein
Kommen wir zurück in unsere heutige Zeit: Die Beziehung zwischen Mode und sexuellem Fetischismus ist ein seit Jahrhunderten bestehendes Bindeglied. Das erste kommerziell bekannte Beispiel dafür ist die enge Schnürung und der Einsatz von Miederwaren in der ersten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts. Das Gleiche gilt für Stilettos und Stöckelschuhe. Fashion soll erotisch sein. BURBERRY liegt mit seinem „rubberished PU Trenchcoat“ ganz hoch auf der Must-have Liste vieler Trendsetterinnen. Aber auch bei ACNE, KENZO und MOSCHINO dürfen wir 2018/2019 ganz gespannt auf glänzendes Vinyl, PVC und Straps-Elemente sein. Und das Tolle: Dieser Trend kommt immer wieder. Was früher vielleicht noch entrüstete Blicke hervorrief, hat sich heute in der Alltagsmode etabliert. Neu ist allerdings, dass diese Fashion auch im Angebot großer Modeketten auftaucht, die ein breites und zumeist sehr junges Publikum bedienen.
Die Verwendung von Materialien einer Subkultur innerhalb des gesellschaftlichen Mainstream-Stils oder in der High-Fashion ist alles andere als eine Premiere – was jeder, der eine Fashionshow von Jean Paul Gaultier gesehen hat, wahrscheinlich auch sagen wird. Burlesque Diva Dita von Teese ist sicherlich eine große Muse für den Top Designer. Modeschöpfer haben sich schon lange von Punk, Gothic und Rave-Kulturen inspirieren lassen, um ihre Kreationen zu inspirieren, und „Fetisch“ ist da nicht anders. Selbst CÉLINE kann mit fußfetischistischen Accessoires wie den „tromp l’oeil Zehenschuhen“ aus ihrer SS13-Kollektion assoziert werden.
Fetish Fashion im Trend
Ein neuer Star in Paris ist wohl Johanna Senyk mit ihrem Label WANDA NYLON. Senyk gehört zur Riege der „cool kids“, zusammen mit Arthur Avallano oder Hanger. Junge Designer, die die Modeszene gerade etwas aufmischen. Johanna arbeitet mit Vinyl und ist damit voll im Trend. Aber auch Label wie Atsuko Kudo haben schon längst die It-Girls erreicht, weshalb Bella Hadid dieses Label liebt.
Auf roten Teppichen und in Designerläden werden immer häufiger Materialien wie PVC oder auch Latex gesehen. Halsbänder mit Ringen, Riemchen mit Bondage Elementen und Leder – alles ist nicht mehr nur für besondere Anlässe, geschweige denn für Underground-Sexclubs gedacht. Sogar eine bekannte Familie wie der Kardashians-Clan, zeigt sich in High-End-Latex-Designs auf Veranstaltungen und in ihren Instagram-Storys. Serena Williams, die gehypte Tennisspielerin, zeigt sich gerne in gewagten Outfits aus Kunstleder mit Nieten, Spitzen-Tutu oder im grellpinken Spandexanzug – auf dem Tunier.
Popstars wie Rita Ora setzen in ihren Videos auf sexy Latex Fashion und teasern so ihr junges Publikum. Aber auch auf der Pariser Fashionweek spazierte Oro im signalroten Vinyl-Jumpsuit ganz vorn. Iggy Azalea setzte auf hautenges Latex bei der Univision Awards-Show in Florida. Im weinroten Latex-Diva-Dress schwebte zudem Bella Hadid zur letzten Party von Victoria Secrets.
Fetish Fashion wird legendär
Filme wie MATRIX, BARB WIRE, KILL BILL Vol.1 oder CATWOMAN sind schon lange mit Elementen aus Fetish Fashion gepickt. Für den Film DAS FÜNFTE ELEMENT entwarf Jean Paul Gaultier die Kostüme. Stilikonen wie Madonna und Lady Gaga , Individualisten wie Marilyn Manson und Dita van Teese – sie alle haben diese Fetish Fashion schon immer gelebt. Lady Gaga schüttelte schon im Latexoutfit der Queen die Hand und Michael Jackson hatte eine Vorliebe für Uniformen und Leder. Boy George feierte 2011 seinen 50. Geburtstag mit einer Party im stricktem Fetish-Dresscode. Als Ikone der Popkultur hat Madonna Modetrends gesetzt und die Karriere von etablierten und aufstrebenden Designern beflügelt.

Fetish Couture, as I call it or have also seen again and again in VOGUE , far away from the cheap „sexshop look“, caused a sensation already in the 90s. Thierry Mugler produced with his monogolie „Fetish Fashion Fantasy“ and his fashion shows per se a big outcry in the fashion sky. Until this day, it stands for a milestone in the fashion world. Who doesn’t remember top model Eva Herzigova in a transparent dress with lace inserts and wasp waist? Mugler still designs erotic impressions with materials made of latex, PVC or neoprene in his events and is legendary for it.

How it began: As an eleven-year-old boy, he visited the „Museum of African and Oceanic Art“ in Paris. The sign, which was intended to draw the attention of museum visitors to the fact that their high heels should not scratch the floor, probably aroused his fascination for women’s shoes. Louboutin memorized the shape of the stiletto depicted and a lifelong love was born. Perhaps this special love makes this shoe an itpiece, a Statement.

Let’s get back to our times today. The relationship between fashion and sexual fetishism is a link that has existed for centuries. The first commercially known example of it is the tight lacing and use of corsetry in the first half of the 16th century. The same applies to stilettos and high heels. Fashion should be erotic. BURBERRY with its „rubberized PU trench coat“ is very high on the must-have list of many trendsetters. But also at the lines of ACNE, KENZO and MOSCHINO in 2018/2019 we can look forward to shiny vinyl, PVC and strap elements. And the great thing is that this trend keeps coming back. What may have been a source of indignant glances in the past has now established itself in everyday fashion. What is new, however, is that this fashion is also appearing in the range of large fashion chains that serve a broad and mostly very young public.
The use of materials from a subculture, within the social mainstream style or in high fashion, is anything but a premiere – which anyone who has seen a fashion show by Jean Paul Gaultier will probably say. Burlesque Diva Dita von Teese is certainly a great muse for the top designer. Fashion creators have long been inspired by punk, gothic and rave cultures to influence their creations, and „fetish“ is no different. Even CÉLINE can be associated with foot fetishist accessories like the „tromp l’oeil toe shoes“ from her SS13 Collection.
Fetish Fashion in trend
A new star in Paris is probably Johanna Senyk with her label WANDA NYLON. Senyk belongs to the „cool kids“ squad, together with Arthur Avallano or Hanger. Young designers who are currently mixing up the fashion scene. Johanna works with vinyl and is therefore very trendy. But labels like Atsuko Kudo have also long since reached the It girls, which is why Bella Hadid loves this Label.
On red carpets and in designer shops materials like PVC or latex are more and more frequently seen. Collars with rings, straps with bondage elements and leather – everything is no longer just meant for special occasions, let alone underground sex clubs. Boy George celebrated his 50th birthday in 2011 with a party and a strict fetish dresscode. An icon of pop culture, Madonna has set fashion trends and spurred the careers of established and aspiring designers.
