Review Avantgardista 2018 – electrical energy on the runway

Ich nehme euch mit zur AVANTGARDISTA 2018 in München: Für mich ein großes Feuerwerk aus unzähligen Eindrücken, motivierten Designern, Zuschauern und Modellen und beeindruckenden Shows. Ihr wollt Details? Dann lest selbst, wie mein Wochenende auf dieser unvergleichlichen Veranstaltung war.

Freitags, Meet & Greet.

Neugierig und ein bisschen aufgeregt schaue ich im Showroom vorbei. Die Designer richten motiviert die finalen i-Tüpfelchen ihrer Stände aus, es wird geplauscht und viele Modelle stehen schon in der Schlange, um sich ihre Akkreditierung abzuholen. An der Bar herrscht reges Treiben und zusammen mit Sebastian von Outlaw und Kid’O von „Kurage“ stoße ich auf ein besonderes Event an. Die Crew von „ExxEss Latex“ versammelt sich wie auf einem Familienfest oben in der Lounge und lässt sich auf den weißen Möbeln nieder. Diese Familie sieht man gerne wieder. Überall begrüßen sich Modelle, Designer und Gäste und freuen sich auf gemeinsame Stunden – kommen doch viele aus den entferntesten Ecken Deutschlands und sogar aus der ganzen Welt. Wer sich noch nicht kennt, stellt sich vor und die Herzlichkeit aller Beteiligten ist fast schon ein Markenzeichen der Szene. Doch allzu spät wird es heute nicht, denn alle wollen fit sein für den Haupttag am Samstag, wollen die Proben, die Shows und natürlich auch noch die Aftershow-Party genießen.

Es wird ernst: Samstag ist Show-Tag.

Um 10.00 Uhr treffe ich am Samstag beim Kesselhaus ein, suche einen Parkplatz und bugsiere mich mit Kaffee und einer riesigen Tasche, in der ich verschiedene Schuhe und mein Outfit für die Party am Abend habe, in Richtung Haupteingang. Fleißiges Treiben erwartet mich bereits in den Gängen und ich werde von vielen motivierten und enthusiastischen „Hallos“ begrüßt. Auch Besucher spazieren schon durch die Hallen, bestaunten die Entwürfe der Designer und nutzen die Chance, in Ruhe einzukaufen und zu stöbern.

Mein erster Job: Um 10.30 setze ich mich brav in die Maske, wo ich meinen Signature-Make-up-Look von Angie Delray erhalte. Auch die anderen Modelle bekommen je nach Show ein passendes Make-up und haben wie ich feste Termine für die Rehearsals, also die Proben für den Laufsteg. Je nach Modell können es schon mal bis zu drei Proben für drei Laufsteg-Auftritte am Abend sein. Damit auch alle bei Kräften bleiben, steht den ganzen Tag ein Catering zur Verfügung, welches immer gut besucht ist sich auch gleichzeitig als kleiner Meetingpoint entpuppt. Viele Modelle und Designer kennen sich schon lange untereinander und die AVANTGARDISTA erinnert deshalb an ein kleines Familienfest, auf dem man sich nach langer Zeit wiedersieht. Einige Modelle sind nicht nur aus den unterschiedlichsten Ecken Deutschlands, sondern sogar aus Zypern, den Niederlanden, England, den USA oder Moskau angereist – nur, um hier dabei zu sein.
Nach meiner letzten von insgesamt zwei Proben würde ich mich am liebsten kurz ausruhen, doch dann kommt auch schon Stella Curve auf mich zu. Nächster Programmpunkt für mich: Wir interviewen Designer und Macher vor laufender Kamera. Mein Gehirn ist ziemlich überladen und ich fühle mich wie nach einem Langstreckenflug. Auf den Aufnahmen kann das nicht toll aussehen, überlege ich noch kurz. Egal. Und als Stella und ich die Aufnahmen nach jedem Dreh kurz mit den zwei Profis des TV-Teams ansehen, sind wir eigentlich doch ganz zufrieden.
Die Zeit vergeht wie im Flug und viele Modelle gewöhnen sich noch ein bisschen an die hohen Schuhe, nutzen die Zeit aus und haben auf dem Gelände ein kleines Fotoshooting oder relaxen einfach ein bisschen zusammen. Schließlich will man für die lange Partynacht noch fit sein. Im Showroom geht es währenddessen bunt zu. Gäste und Modelle flanieren umher, die Designer beraten ihre Kunden, vermessen und tauschen sich aus – kurzum ein geschäftiges Treiben bei herrlichem Sonnenschein in München.
Um 19 Uhr eröffnet Gloria Gray im voll besetzten Kohlebunker den Showteil des Abends, danach führen Ian Darkpilot aus New York und Fräulein Katzentanz durchs Programm. Die Zuschauer werden Show um Show von Magie, Emotionen, Akrobatik, Mode und Überraschungen mitgerissen. Ich selbst bin für zwei Designer mitten im Geschehen und auf dem Laufsteg, doch habe ich es mir nicht nehmen lassen, ein paar Feedbacks von einigen der Designer einzuholen.

Die Shows: sagenhafte Inszenierungen

Christoph Pohl, Designer de Labels „benno von stein“ lässt seine Modelle in signalrot zum Beatles-Evergreen „All you need is love“ über den Laufsteg schwirren und (fast) jeden Walk mit einem innigen Kuss abschließen. „Mein schönster Moment war, als ich alle meine Models in den neuen Kreationen auf dem Laufsteg sah. Ich war über allen Maßen glücklich. Zudem konnten wir viele Menschen mit unseren neuen Outfits beglücken und sicherlich auch die Reichweite unseres Labels erhöhen. Ich bin total zufrieden“, so der Designer.
Wendy von „RUBBELLA“ füllt ihre Showroom-Booth mit einer facettenreichen Auswahl an glänzendem Latex. Für jeden ist etwas dabei und das Girl-Next-Door Wendy selbst strahlt mit ihrer positiven Art während der Show auf dem Laufsteg. „Meine Modelle waren toll und es war unglaublich, als die Menge applaudierte.“ Königsblau, glänzendes Schwarz und Gold – das waren die Farben ihrer Kollektion.

„Kurage“ aus Japan vollzieht eine wilde Show auf der Bühne. Die Models stecken in super aufwendigen Outfits mit Masken und mehrlagigem Latex, teilweise mit Prints und aufwendigen Applikationen, und begeistern mit wahrer Akrobatik auf der Bühne. Strukturierter Latex und Rubber, zum Beispiel aus recycelten Reifen, sind ein zentrales Thema.
„Rosengarn“, das Label von Karin Plum schillert in buntem Latex und hat sogar Schirme aus diesem Material: „Der Catwalk der Modelle in meinen Outfits war ein fantastisches Glücksgefühl und das hat meine Erwartungen voll erfüllt.“ Eine wahre Farbexplosion.
„Fernando Berlin“ verzaubert die Zuschauer zusammen mit „Tight Laced“ und zarter erotischer Lingerie kombiniert mit sexy Stiefeln. „Kurz nach dem Catwalk, als man feststellte, dass die Outfits super waren, die Show toll war und man realisierte, dass sich die monatelange Vorbereitung für 5 Minuten Show gelohnt haben – das war eine schöne, stille Freude,“ gibt Ferdinand Tiffert als Feedback.
„Tatjana Warnecke“ powerd by „6imSinn“ inszeniert mit ihrer Show eine kleine Geschichte. Düster schwebt Leto van Long über den Runway und trägt einem Umhang, unter dem er zwei Modelle versteckt. Dea Levina lässt einen wilden Sebastian Stone von der Leine, der dann doch unterwürfig zu seinem Herrn zurück kriecht und sich wieder an die Leine legen lässt. „Oft werden Fetish Fashion und Party ’n‘ Play zu schnell, zu oberflächlichen und auf rein sexuellen Spielwiesen behandelt. Die AVANTGARDISTA ist da anders, und das macht Spaß“, so Leto van Long. Auch Sebastian Stone schwärmt von seinem tollsten Moment: „Ich wurde nach meiner Idee für die Show gefragt und das kam dabei heraus – eine kleine Traumrolle: Es war eine Kombination aus dieser Rolle und der Tatsache, dass mein blankes Hinterteil mehr oder minder freiwillig für jedermann gut zu erkennen sein würde.“
Puppi von „GlanzGlück“ ist völlig begeistert, als die Menge nach den ersten Takten der Musik zu klatschen beginnt: „Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass die Show gefällt und gut ankommt. Meine Erwartungen wurden erfüllt bis übertroffen.“ Eine Gesangseinlage krönt die Show, zu der ausschließlich Männer auf dem Laufsteg unterwegs sind – bis auf die Sängerin natürlich.
Myriam von „Rohmy Couture“ ist überwältigt von der tollen Atmosphäre und der Stimmung. Sie ist hochschwanger und hat ihren Showroom-Stand, sowie die Show mit Bravour gemeistert: „Besonders schön fand ich, dass ich einige Leute getroffen habe, die ich jahrelang nicht sehen konnte. Das erinnerte an ein Familienfest.“ In ihrer Show ging es keltisch zu mit glamourösen Elementen; ein schöner Stilbruch zu anderen Shows, der ihre langen fließenden Kleider im griechischen Ropework-Couture-Stil herausstechen lässt.
„aïo“ aus Berchtesgaden ist angetan von dem Community-Feeling zwischen Designern, Modellen und Kunden. „Es gibt kein Konkurrenzgefühl und jeder hat sich mit dem Anderen gefreut. Wir wurden mit offenen Armen aufgenommen. Aufregend ist es auch immer, wenn Leute zum ersten Mal mit Latex in Kontakt kommen und das ausprobieren wollen“, beschreibt Tobias vom Designteam seine schönsten Momente der AVANTGARDISTA. Die Show von „aïo“ zeigt raffinierte Schnitte kombiniert mit einer Fülle von Farben.
Neben den Shows und den Ständen der Designer stellte Ferdinand Zander eine Galerie mit seinen Arbeiten aus der Fetish Fotografie aus: „Die Leute sind direkt auf mich zugegangen und haben Interesse an meinen Bildern gezeigt. Die Reaktionen mal live zu erleben ist was anderes als nur über Social Media Likes zu bekommen.“

Die Modelle tragen zum Erfolg bei 

Es sind über 150 weibliche und männliche Fashionistas der Alternativen Szene vor Ort und mit großem Engagement bei den Vorbereitungen und den Shows selbst dabei. Im Backstage-Bereich herrscht manchmal Hektik und in der Maske geht es zeitweise zu wie im Taubenschlag – aber schlussendlich werden Designer und Modelle mit einem lauten, grandiosen Applaus im Finale belohnt. „Die AVANTGARDISTA ist spannend, nicht zuletzt aufgrund der sehr guten Auswahl an Designern und des gelungenen Material-Mix von (veganem) Leder, Lack, normalem Stoff, Schuhen und ungewöhnlichen Stücken. Das Ambiente für die Besucher, die nach den Shows direkt im Showroom Gesehenes einkaufen können – das ist einzigartig. Ich mag es als Model, dass Fashionshow und Afterparty getrennt sind. So steht die Präsentation der Mode im Fokus“, erzählt mir Cassidy Rose.

Fetish Medusa läuft für „Kurage“, den Designer aus Tokio, der mit seiner Show den Zuschauern ein Raunen entlockte. „Die ganze Zeit war toll, aber mein emotionalster Moment war der, als ich eine wirkliche „Medusa“ sein durfte. Alle Träume meiner Kindheit wurden in dieser Nacht Wirklichkeit und ich musste mich kontrollieren, nicht die ganze Zeit vor lauter Glück zu weinen. Dann nahm Kid’O mich auf dem Runway zum Schluss auch noch an seine Hand und ich wusste gar nicht, was ich vor lauter Glück und Stolz machen sollte. Das Outfit hat jetzt einen ganz besonderen Platz in meiner Garderobe und in meinem Herzen sowieso,“ verrät sie mir.
YouTuber Coal Candy hat während der diesjährigen AVANTGARDISTA wieder ein Video gedreht, dass den Vibe der Veranstaltung ausgezeichnet einfängt und überträgt. Das findet ihr übrigens hier. „Die Show von „Etere Shop“ aus Weißrussland war mein Highlight, da die Designs vollkommen unerwartet kamen. Wenn eine solche Show auf einem anderen Event stattgefunden hätte, wäre die Veranstaltung nach dieser Nummer vorbei gewesen. Aber nicht so auf der AVANTGARDISTA, denn der Standard war hier sowieso schon sehr hoch“, so der Schwede.
Ein Highlight jagt quasi das nächste. Zum Beispiel Chrissie Seams, die das silberne Alien in der Show von „ExxEss Latex“ ist: „Der tollste Moment war für mich, als ich am Freitag beim Fitting in den verspiegelten Anzug passte. Ich habe mich zudem so sehr über alte Bekannte gefreut und speziell über meine ExxEss-Latex-Family. Da geht mir das Herz auf bei diesen genialen Menschen.“

Wie ein Familienfest

Ian Darkpilot moderiert mit Fräulein Katzentanz die Fashionshows. Natürlich will ich auch von ihm schnell noch wissen, was sein aufregendster Moment war. „Ich war immer der Erste, der die Modelle in ihren Outfits gesehen hat, bevor sie dann an mir vorbei auf den Runway liefen. Das war super. Die Kreativität in unserer „Familie“ ist absolut unglaublich, selbst nach so langer Zeit und so vielen Fashionshows, die ich auf der ganzen Welt gesehen habe. Und wenn Mode und Modelle zusammen auf den Laufsteg kommen, dann spüre ich einfach eine elektrische Energie. Die Aftershow Party war zudem großartig und wird jedes Jahr besser“, erzählt mir Ian.
„Yourshape“ präsentiert ihre Korsetts in sämtlichen Styles und Materialien. Eleganz, Erotik und Stil ließen die Zuschauer staunen. Chinaseide tänzelt mit metallischem Kunstleder und Nadelstreifen über den Runway, präsentiert von stolzen Modellen.
„ExxEss Latex“ aus Tacoma im Staat Washington mit Jeannie Lou und Al Holt als Designteam liefern mit ihrer Latex-Kunst einen mehr als spacigen Auftritt. Jeannie aka „Captain Fluffy“ verrät mir außerdem, dass dies die vorerst letzte ExxEss-Show gewesen ist. Jetzt möchte sie sich daran machen, endlich Latexdesigns für den Endkunden zu entwerfen. Bisher waren ihre Designs immer Elemente einer Show und daher nicht käuflich. Zu bestaunen sind vor allem bunte Designs, bei denen auch im Vordergrund steht, dass Latex „kuschelig und flauschig“ sein kann. Ihre Show bildet den Abschluss, ist sozusagen der Showdown und gleichzeitig auch Überleitung zur SubRosaDictum Aftershowparty „Space Intruders“ im Kesselhaus nebenan.
Bei über 20 Designern in den Fashionshows könnte ich natürlich stundenlang weitererzählen, interviewen und in Erinnerungen schwelgen. Zudem war es für mich auch eine grandiose persönliche Erfahrung, auf dem weißen Laufsteg unterwegs zu sein und im Scheinwerferlicht zu stehen. Doch das würde sicher irgendwann den Rahmen dieses Beitrags sprengen… Daher nur noch ein paar Worte zur tollen Aftershow-Party im Kesselhaus nebenan.

Aftershow-Party „Space Intruders“

Nach der AVANTGARDISTA ist vor der Aftershow-Party. Die SubRosaDictum-Crew richtet eine Feier der Extraklasse aus, zu der viele von weit her anreisen und ihre neueste Alternative Fashion präsentieren. Es geht ein bisschen zu wie im Festzelt von „Käfer“, nur dass keine Trachtenträume auf dem roten Teppich bestaunt werden, sondern der letzte Schrei in Sachen Latex, Vinyl, Burlesque oder Leder stolz hergezeigt wird. Ob dies nun vorher im Showroom erworben oder mitgebracht wurde, spielt keine Rolle. Hauptsache ist, dass die Menge Spaß hat. Und da ich mittendrin bin: Ein Riesenspaß ist es! Übermenschlich große Blowup-Alienroboter mit bunten LEDs laufen auf Stelzen durch die Menge und schießen mit ihren Nebelpistolen auf das tanzende Volk. Lasershow, mehrere Tanzbereiche, Bondage-Bühne… Es ist ein Spielplatz für Erwachsene mit Sinneseindrücken, treibenden Bässen und grandioser Stimmung.
Gegen 3.00 Uhr, als die Party noch voll im Gange ist, streiken meine physischen Kräfte und ich mache mich auf den Heimweg. Auch wenn es für alle Designer, Modelle, Backstage-Helfer und die Veranstalter wieder ein wenig anstrengend war, so werden wir alle dieses Event noch lange freudig in unserem Herzen tragen – denn es hat unglaublichen Spaß gemacht und endlich gibt es ein Familientreffen, auf das man sich freut.

It was like a big emotional firework of countless impressions, unforgettable shows and motivated designers, spectators and models for me. You want some more details? Then read on and imagine my weekend at this incomparable event.

Friday, Meet & Greet

Curious and a little excited, I take a look into the AVANTGARDISTA showroom. The designers are finishing their final touches of their booths, there is a lot of chatting and at the model accreditation there’s already a line forming. The bar is very busy and together with Sebastian von Outlaw and Kid’O from „Kurage“ I toast to a special event. The crew of „ExxEss Latex“ gathers up in the lounge, celebrating like a family come-together, and settles down on the white furniture. Finally, a family gathering which you like to attend. Everywhere guests, models and designers are saying hello to each other, looking forward to the following days – a lot of them are not only from all over Germany but from all over the world. But it won’t end too late today – everyone wants to be ready for the main event day on Saturday, everybody wants to enjoy the rehearsals, the shows and of course the aftershow party.

It’s getting serious: Saturday is show-day

I arrive at 10am on Saturday at the Kesselhaus, hit a parking space and manoeuvre myself towards the main entrance whilst carrying a coffee and a huge bag with several shoes and my outfit for the party in the evening. Busy activity awaits me in the corridors and I am greeted by a lot of motivated and enthusiastic „Hello’s“. Many visitors are already walking through the halls, marvelling the designs of the designers and using the opportunity to shop, chat and browse.
My first job: I’m sitting down in the make-up room at 10.30am to get my signature make-up look from Angie Delray. The other models are getting their make-up done depending on their show as well and have fixed rehearsal times just as I do. Some girls and boys are attending up to three rehearsals for their corresponding three shows in the evening. To get through such a tough day, there’s a catering available all day, which is always well attended and at the same time turns into a small meeting point. Many models and designers have known each other for a long period of time and the AVANTGARDISTA therefore resembles a small (or rather big) family reunion with everyone meeting up again after a long time. Some models did not just come from all over Germany but even from Cyprus, the Netherlands, England, America or Moscow – simply to be there.

After my last rehearsal of two in total I would like to take a little rest, but just then Stella Curve comes around the corner. Next point on my schedule: Interviewing designers and producers in front of the camera. My brain is pretty overloaded and I feel like I’m on a long distance flight. It can’t look great on the shots, I think on short-notice. Oh well, too late. But when Stella and I briefly watch the clips after every shoot together with the two professionals from the TV team, we are quite happy nonetheless.
Time flies by and many models are using the time getting comfortable in high shoes, having some photo shootings on the premises or just relaxing for a while. Surely everyone wants to hang on until late at night. Guests and models are strolling around the showroom, the designers are advising the customers, taking measures, exchange ideas – in short, a colourful hustle and bustle in the glorious late afternoon sunshine of Munich.
At 7pm, Gloria Gray opens the AVANTGARDISTA show at the fully occupied Kohlebunker. Coming right behind, Ian Darkpilot and Fräulein Katzentanz are hosting the evening full of shows presenting magic, emotion, acrobatics, fashion and surprises. I am on the runway for two designers as well but nevertheless I want to present you some pieces of the amazing feedback I got from the designers.

The shows are fabulous stagings

Christoph Pohl from „benno von stein“ clads his models in a signal-red colour and sends them across the catwalk, playing the Beatles evergreen „All you need is love“ in the background and letting them finish the walk (most of the time) with a deep kiss. „My most beautiful moment was to see all my models in the new creations on the catwalk. I was happy beyond all measure. In addition, we were able to delight many people with our new outfits and certainly increased the reach of our label. I am totally at peace,“ says the designer.
Wendy from „RUBBELLA“ fills her showroom booth with a multi-faceted selection of shiny latex. There is something for everyone and Wendy herself shines with her positive way on the catwalk of her own show: „My models were great and it was unbelievable when the crowd applauded.“ Royal blue, shiny black and gold – these were the colours of her collection.
„Kurage“ from Japan performs a wild warrior-like show on stage of the AVANTGARDISTA. The models are dressed in elaborate outfits with masks and multi-layered latex and inspire with true acrobatics on stage. Structured latex and recycled rubber are the central themes.
„Rosengarn“ by Karin Plum shimmers in colorful latex and even has umbrellas made of this material: „Seeing the models in my outfits was a fantastic feeling of happiness and the show totally fulfilled my expectations.“ A true burst of colours.
„Fernando Berlin“ enchants the audience together with „Tight Laced“, showing delicate erotic lingerie and sexy boots. „Shortly after the catwalk, when you realized that the outfits were beautiful, the show was great and you know that the months of preparation for 5 minutes of show were worth it – that is a nice, quiet joy,“ Ferdinand Tiffert gives as feedback.
„Tatjana Warnecke“ powered by „6imSinn“ tells a whole story with her show. Leto van Long floats gloomily over the runway in a cape under which he hides two models. Dea Levina lets a wild Sebastian Stone off the leash, who then crawls back submissively to his mistress and lets himself be put back on the leash. „Fetish Fashion and Party ’n‘ Play are often treated too fast and too judgemental on superficial sexual playgrounds. The AVANTGARDISTA is different, and that’s fun,“ says Leto van Long. Sebastian Stone draws on his greatest moment: „I was asked about my idea for the show and it’s been realised – a little dream role that came true. It was a combination of that role and the fact that my bare butt would be more or less voluntarily recognizable to everyone.“
Puppi from „GlanzGlück“ is completely thrilled when the crowd starts clapping after the first notes of the music: „I had the feeling that they liked the show, my expectations were fulfilled or even exceeded“. A vocal interlude crowns the show and except for the female singer, there are only male fashionistas on the runway.
Myriam from „Rohmy Couture“ is overwhelmed by the great atmosphere and the mood. She is highly pregnant and mastered her showrrom booth, as well as the show: „I found it especially nice that I met some people I haven’t seen for years. It reminded me of a family event.“ The show is interlaced with Celtic glamourous elements, contrasting the previous shows and her long, floating dresses of Greek inspired Ropework-Couture.

„aïo“ from Berchtesgaden is impressed by the community feeling between designers and customers. „There is no competitive feeling and everyone is happy with each other. We’ve been welcomed with open arms. It’s always exciting when people come into contact with latex for the first time and want to try it“, Tobias from the design team describes his most beautiful moments of the AVANTGARDISTA. The show presented some outstanding refined cuts combined with colorful latex pieces.
Besides the fashion shows and the showroom, Ferdinand Zander exhibits his fetish photography work at the venue: „The people approached me directly and showed interest in my pictures. Experiencing the reactions live is different than getting them only through social media likes and I found that very interesting.“

The models contribute to the success

There are over 150 female and male fashionistas from the alternative scene on site and they take the shows and rehearsals very seriously and work with great commitment. The backstage area is sometimes a bit hectic and the make-up is from time to time like a dovecote – but in the end, designers and models are rewarded with grandiose applause in the finale. „The AVANTGARDISTA is exciting due to the very good selection of designers and the successful mix of materials like (vegan) leather, PVC, latex, fabrics, shoes and other one-of-a-kind-pieces. The ambience for the visitors, who can shop in the showroom directly after the shows, is unique. As a model, I like the fact that the fashion shows and the afterparty are separated. So, the focus is on the fashion presentation“, tells me Cassidy Rose.
Fetish Medusa walks for „Kurage“, the designer from Tokyo, whose show made the audience whisper in excitement. „The whole time here was great, but my most emotional moment was when I was allowed to be a real „Medusa“. All my childhood dreams came true that night and I had to control myself not to cry all the time due to happiness. Then Kid’O took me by his hand at the end of our runway show and I didn’t know what to do with all my happiness and pride. The outfit now has a very special place in my wardrobe and in my heart anyway“, she tells me.
YouTuber Coal Candy from Stockholm shot a video during this year’s AVANTGARDISTA, which captures and broadcasts the vibe of the event excellently. You can find it here, by the way. „The show by „Etere Shop“ from Russia was my highlight, because the designs were completely unexpected. If such a show had taken place at another event, the whole show would have been over after this point. But not so at the AVANTGARDISTA, because the average standard was so high anyway,“ says the Swedish guy.
On highlight chases the next one. For example, Chrissie Seams, who is the outstanding silver alien in the show of „ExxEss Latex“, tells me: „The greatest moment was, when I put on the mirrored suit on Friday and it fit me perfectly. I was so happy about meeting old acquaintances as well and especially about my ExxEss-Latex family gathering. My heart goes out to all those lovely people.“

Like a family reunion

Ian Darkpilot from New York hosts the fashion show together with Fräulein Katzentanz. Of course, I quickly ask him as well about his personal highlight. „I was always the first person to see the models in their outfits before they walked out on the runway. That was so great. The creativity in our „family“ is absolutely incredible, even after such a long time and so many fetish fashion shows I’ve seen all over the world. And when the fashion and the models end up together on the catwalk, I just feel an electrical energy. The after show is also great and gets better every year,“ says Ian.
Another designer, „Yourshape“, presents their corsets in all styles and materials. Elegance, eroticism and style amazes the audience. Chinese silk dancing with metallic imitation leather and pinstripes over the runway, presented by proud fashionistas.
„ExxEss Latex“ from Tacoma Washington with Jeannie Lou and Al Holt as design team delivers a hyper spacy appearance with their latex art. Jeannie aka „Captain Fluffy“ also tells me that this was the last show of ExxEss Latex for now. From now on she wants to start creating latex designs for the final (private) customer. So far, her designs have always been elements of a show and therefore not for sale. „ExxEss Latex“ mainly creates colorful designs and features the main theme that latex is „cuddly and fluffy“ as well. Her show is the final act, so to speak the showdown of the AVANTGARDISTA, and simultaneously the transition to the SubRosaDictum after show party „Space Intruders“ in the Kesselhaus next door.
With more than 20 designers I could go on and on about the shows of course. More interviews, more memories, more things to tell you. Besides, it’s been an outstanding personal experience for me as well, being on the white runway and standing in the spotlight at the AVANTGARDISTA. But raving about all of this would surely go beyond the scope of this post, so I’ll close with a few words about the fabulous after show party.

After show party „Space Intruders“

After the AVANTGARDISTA is before the afte rshow party. The SubRosaDictum crew organises an after show of the high class and a lot of people travel to this party from far away, presenting their latest fetish fashion. It’s a bit like the Wiesn festival tent of „Käfer“, only that not dreams of traditional costumes are marvelled on the red carpet, but the latest trends of latex, vinyl or leather garments are shown off. It doesn’t matter if you just bought it at the show room or brought it with you from home. Essential is to have fun and since I am in the middle: It is so unbelievably much fun! More than life sized huge blow up-alien-robots walk on stilts through the crowd and shoot with their fog guns at the dancing people. Laser shows, multiple dance floors, bondage stage… It is a playground for adults with sensations, pumping basslines and a great vibe.
Around 3.00am, whilst the party is still in full swing, my physical strength is on strike, and I’m starting my journey home. Even if it was slightly nerve-racking for the designers, models, backstage people and the organizers, we’ll all carry this event joyfully in our hearts for a long time to come. Because it’s been so much fun and finally a family gathering that we’re all looking forward to.
