"The Art of Vince Voltage" – I’m f#cking hungry
Jeder Künstler träumt davon: Eine Vernissage, auf der sich angesagte Kunsthändler um die Werke prügeln. Für Vince Voltage ist dies Realität geworden.
Er platziert wohlgeformte, nackte Frauenhintern auf Hummer oder Sushi. Er löst mit seiner Orchesterserie, bei der sich seine Modelle Blasinstrumente in den Po schieben, einen Aufschrei im Social Web und der Kunstszene aus. Photoshop oder Tatsache? Heute frage ich den neuen Star direkt.
„Ich bin über 18 Jahre alt, bestätige ich“, als ich die Website vom Künstler Vince Voltage betrete. Drei mir entgegenstreckte Frauenhintern springen mich an. Das Model spreizt mit den Händen ihre Pobacken und gibt eine ungefilterte Ansicht auf Anus und Vagina frei. Das Kunstwerk mit dieser Frau, dreimal dieselbe, von dunkel bis hellhäutig retuschiert, trägt den Titel „buttholes of the world“. Die Message lautet für mich: Wir sind doch alle gleich – und irgendwo auch Arsch.
Vince Voltage fotografiert, spielt aber auch Gitarre bei PUSSY SISSTER. Mit der Band tourt er seit fünf Jahren durch Europa und hat auch schon sein erstes Soloalbum rausgebracht. „Wir machen nicht ultrahart, sondern spielen Hardrock im Stil von BON JOVI oder MÖTLEY CRÜE“, sagt der gebürtige Nürtinger. Ein leidenschaftliches Herz, Cowboyboots und knallharter Oberkörper – Rockstar Attitüde gibt es reichlich. „Wie sieht es mit Groupies aus?“, will ich daher wissen. Vince grinst: „Groupies sind immer willkommen! Sie sollen ihre Freundinnen und Mütter mitbringen. Spaß beiseite, denn Kunst mache ich aus eigener Überzeugung und Liebe, nicht wegen Groupies.“

„Ich bin ein wilder Typ seit ich 16 Jahre bin, habe lange Haare und alles was dazu gehört. Teilweise war ich auch der typische Albtraum meiner Eltern und Lehrer, rebellische Pubertät halt“, erzählt er mir bei seinem Kilometermarsch durch sein Wohnzimmer während unseres Gesprächs. Eine Macke, verrät Vince mir später: „Ich kann einfach nicht still sitzen.“ Schade, dass wir nur telefonieren und ich mir das nur vorstellen darf: Er läuft weiter hin und her mit Western Boots, Cowboyhut, nackt.
Kuriositäten weckten sein Interesse wenn er auf Tournee war und so beginnt er mit dem Fotografieren von Reisemotiven. Seann Jewall inspiriert ihn früh für Fetisch-Fotografie, wobei die Kunst von Vince Voltage bis heute nicht allein durch dieses Genre geprägt ist. Vince stellt fest: „Kunst soll Emotionen wecken. Sie soll nicht um jeden Preis Provokation erzeugen. Der Betrachter wird gezwungen zu entscheiden, ob er das, was er sieht, liebt oder hasst. Ein Zwischending oder ein einfaches Gefallen meiner Kunst – das ist mir zu wenig.“
Ein Studium in der Fotografie zu absolvieren, oder die Anleitung der Kamera zu lesen? Dies war nie ein Thema für den Autodidakten, der schnell zu einer Koryphäe auf seinem Terrain wurde.
Das „Party Animal“ als Seelentier
Eine Vernissage von „The Art of Vince Voltage“ kann schon mal eskalieren. So ist die Ausstellung „Digital Art Jesus“ kürzlich leicht ausgeschweift und war in den frühen Morgenstunden eher ein Mittelding aus Party und Orgie, erfahre ich aus sicherer Quelle. Sebastian von Outlaw beispielsweise, Besucher und Model, schwärmt noch lange von diesem Event. So ist es wohl, wenn ein Künstler das Party Animal als Seelentier in sich trägt: Eine hedonistische Party mit Studio 54 Vibes ist vorprogrammiert.
Ein neuer Stern am Himmel für provokative Kunst funkelt mir entgegen. Vielleicht der neue Josefsohn oder Richardson am Horizont. Veröffentlichungen im Mercedes Benz Magazin oder Aufträge von Hugo Boss begleiten den Aufstieg von Vince Voltage in der Welt der digitalen Kunst – ein Ausnahmekünstler.
Vom Musikbusiness bist du zum Fotografieren gelangt und auch in das Genre „Fetisch“. Wie kam es dazu?
Vince: „Mit dem Fotografieren fing ich an, als ich auf Tournee war mit den PUSSY SISSTERS. Ungewöhnliches weckt schon damals eher mein Interesse als 0815-Motive.
Der Sprung zum Fetisch? Konkret war es wohl Seann von JADED JEWALL, weshalb ich auch mit ihm kooperiere. Er ist ein Modeschöpfer und gleichzeitig mein Lieblingsdesigner für CyberPunk-Fetisch-Stuff. In meinen Fotos verwende ich seine Designs. Dafür bin ich ihm sehr dankbar und werte es als großen Vertrauensbeweis. Er hat von Anfang an wohl an mich geglaubt, da ich schon Material geschickt bekam, als ich noch gar nicht solche Referenzen hatte wie heute. JADED JEWALL stellt auch teilweise die Models, richtet sie her und überlegt sich die Outfits. Er ist ein guter Freund und auch ein Teil meiner Kunst.
Ich arbeite aber noch mit weiteren Designern zusammen, wie Mark Cordory, Maskenzauber Berlin, Dreamwarrior Design, Rad Roach Gear, Wondersteam Boutique oder auch Dust Monkey, um einige zu nennen.“
Cowboyboots und wildes Leben. Beginnt dein Tag mit Whiskey und endet, sobald die Sonne aufgeht? Wie sieht ein typischer Vince-Voltage-Tag aus?
„Ein Tag startet früh und endet spät. Ich widme jede freie Minute meiner Kunst. Mein Wecker hat einen harten Job und klingelt lange durch. Mein Credo zum Aufwachen: Be awesome today. But coffee first!“
Wenn ich mir deine Kunst ansehe, assoziiere ich ein wenig Daniel Josefsohn: „Das Leben ist eine Halfpipe“. Möchtest du mit deinen Fotos provozieren oder was ist deine Message?
„Kunst muss nicht immer eine tiefe Bedeutung haben. Bei einem Playmate fragt sich ja auch keiner: Was will uns der Fotograf im tieferen Sinn sagen, wenn er einen Frauenkörper in Perfektion auf Seidenbettwäsche ablichtet.
„Helm mit Fleisch“ ist insofern eine Ansage, indem er auf die Dekadenz der westlichen Welt aufmerksam macht. Massentierhaltung, Hungersnöte und wir besitzen die Dreistigkeit, Fleisch an einen Football-Helm zu kleben, um es danach in den Müll zu werfen.
Die Betrachter können selber entscheiden, was sie sehen. Eine geheime Botschaft, tiefenpsychologische Denkansätze oder ob sie einfach optisch geil gemacht werden.“
Bei dem Porträt „Frau mit Käsehelm“ sagt ein Freund „So mag ich Käse“. Wie kommst du auf solch eine Idee?
„Die Ideen finden immer mich. Ich liege nachts wach und dann kommt der Geistesblitz. Wenn man liebt, was man tut, findet einen die Inspiration von selbst. Die meiste Erleuchtung bekomme ich durch Musik und durch Reisen. Bei meinen Shootings läuft auch immer Musik.“
Shitstorm – hat es schon gegeben aber wir kommen später dazu. Andere interessante Feedbacks, was hat dich sonst so bewegt?
„Die Verkaufszahlen meines Buches „Sex, Art and Rock’n’Roll“ aktuell. Fühlt sich geil an. Dann wurde meine Vernissage „Digital Art Jesus“ sehr übers Social Media gehyped. Das war natürlich toll, dass Besucher ihre Begeisterung dort öffentlich teilen. Vipers Doll mit Maske vor pinkem Hintergrund, das Titelbild meines aktuellen Bildbandes , wurde von einem Kunstsammler gekauft. Dieser lagert es ein als Geldanlage. Super krass, dass Leute meine Fotos als Investition kaufen. Ich hab mir nie erträumt, dass mir das passiert.
Aber mein tollstes Feedback war eigentlich ein negatives Feedback: Ausstellungsverbot, weil der Galerie meine Bilder zu krass waren – sehr schick eigentlich. Schon eine Auszeichnung, weil dieser Skandal Wellen schlug und mir volle Aufmerksamkeit verschaffte. Andere Künstler druckten sich daraufhin Foto Shirts mit einem meiner Artworks als Statement zur Kunstfreiheit.“
Die „Ass Trompet“ hat Wellen geschlagen, von frauenverachtend bis geschmacklos. Wie gehst du mit dieser Kritik um?
„Shitstorms bin ich gewohnt und sehe ich als Kompliment an. Meine Reihe „girls on food“ hatte Motive mit nackten Frauenhintern sitzend auf Hummer oder Spaghetti – aber ausgerechnet das Sushi hat die Gemüter zum Überkochen gebracht. Sushi löste Emotionen aus. Sushi schockierte. Vielleicht werde ich noch irgendwann erfahren, warum ausgerechnet Sushi, aber nicht der leblose Hummer, soviel Empörung ausgelöst hat.
Das Blasinstrument, wurde das wirklich rektal eingeführt? Die Trompete – vielleicht habe ich dort getrickst… Ich verrate nur: Ein ganzes Orchester wird folgen in der Serie „ass orchestra series“.“
Im November 2016 hattest du eine Ausstellung im Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart. Waren dort auch Motive ausgestellt wie „buttholes of the world“ oder warst du da gezähmter?
„Ausgestellt habe im Amtsgericht und im Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart und das ohne Einschränkung meiner Bilderauswahl. Meine erste Bilderserie „Iron Republic“ stellte ich dort aus. Skeptiker gab es nur im Amtsgericht. Die Frauenrechtsbeauftragte und Flüchtlingsbeauftrage gingen wegen Beschwerden auf mich zu. Letztendlich siegte aber die Kunstfreiheit und die Ausstellung blieb geöffnet.“
Deine Kunst sieht nach einer Menge Spaß aus und raubt mir auch oft den Atem. Hast du Ziele und wo willst du denn mit deiner Kunst hin?
Vince grinst: „Klar, will ich die Weltherrschaft. Aber erstmal strebe ich weitere internationale Ausstellungen an. Dj Ötzi’s Albumcover würde ich gern shooten. Und mit Fabz Black, einem befreundeten Fotografen aus Berlin und auch irgendwie auch Instagram-Rivalen, würde ich zu gern auf das Cover der „Happy Weekend“. Ein Limit gibt es nicht für mich.
Die nächsten Termine für 2019 sind die Obsession Bizzar in Hamburg im Februar und eine Sonderausstellung im August. Für den November habe ich mir schon mal fett mit Edding die AVANTGARDISTA in München eingetragen.“
Die AVANTGARDISTA 2018 hast du persönlich besucht. Was hast du dort gemacht?
„Ich habe die Aftershow unter anderem als Gast erlebt, denn ein Platz an der Bar ist nie verkehrt. Für ARTIFICIAL DOWNTOWN war ich selber Model – was großartig war. CyberPunk ist einfach das Fashionthema, welches stark im Kommen ist.
Latex – das erste Mal in meinem Leben an mir selbst! Und eine ganz neue Erfahrung für mich. Ich bekam einen guten Tipp von einem Insider: „Du hast nichts drunter, Vince – immer gut abschütteln und abputzen!“
Natürlich war ich auch als Fotograf dort und habe die Gruppe ARTIFICIAL DOWNTOWN durchfotografiert.
Leider bin ich dann doch mit meiner Crew zu spät angekommen und wir haben die Fashionshows verpasst. Bei der Fotobox konnte ich aber noch viele Modelle in den Outfits der Designer sehen. Sagenhafte, ausgefallene und einzigartige Kreationen. Das beeindruckte mich sehr und ich habe mich geärgert, dass wir die Runway Shows verpasst haben.
Die AVANTGARDISTA hat mich sehr geflashed, deshalb werde ich dort im nächsten Jahr eine exklusive Ausstellung zeigen.“
Ganz oft sehe ich in deinen Fotos Lebensmittel in vielen Varianten. Was hat es damit auf sich?
„Ich mag Essen und nackte Frauen – so einfach ist der Lack. „Girls on food“ und „sausage series“ sind dort Paradebeispiele.“
Fetisch – auch ein Thema für dich persönlich?
„Quadrate, eindeutig. Ich stehe auf Quadrate. Quadratfetisch. 😉“
Mickey Mouse is not dead! Dein Selbstportrait zeigt dich mit Zigarre, plüschigen und überdimensionalen Mickey Maus Ohren, Hosenträgern, trainiertem aber schmutzigem Oberkörper und als Eyecatcher ein neonrosa Netzhandschuh. Völlig durchgeknallt oder bekomme ich jetzt eine Message?
„Danke für dein Kompliment zu meinem Body! In meinen Bildern findet sich eine gewisse Dichotomie wieder. So auch in mir und meinem Selbstportrait. Heitere und düstere Elemente treffen aufeinander, so entsteht durch das Ambivalente eine Atmosphäre. Viele vermeintliche Widersprüche in einem Bild zu vereinen, ist ein Zauber von „The Art of Vince Voltage“.
Dinge, die auf den ersten Blick nicht zusammenzugehen scheinen, vereine ich. Deshalb auch das unterschiedliche Finish der Fotos in düster oder hell ausgeleuchtet.“
Künstler und Musiker gleichzeitig. Stelle ich mir auch irgendwie anstrengend vor. Wie bekommst du trotzdem alles unter einen Hut?
„Indem ich wenig schlafe. Viel Kaffee! Viel Kaffee, hab ich das schon gesagt? Kaffee.“
Ich als dein Model? Mit welchem Food würdest du mich kombinieren?
Das spreche ich immer mit den Models ab, was sie wollen und wir finden was das passt. Aber eines sag ich dir: Mit Chicken Wings und sehr mutig – das wird deine Kombi sein.“
Ich bin sehr mutig. Jetzt bin ich aufgeregt und habe schon für 2019 ein Highlight. Ich bringe uns einen japanischen Whiskey mit zum Shooting. Hast du denn jetzt aktuell Wünsche für Weihnachten?

„Hoffentlich als der Hummer, auf dem mein Model Lucky sitzt! Die mag ich sehr.“
Vince, jetzt werde ich tiefgründig. Mit dem Wissen von jetzt, was hättest du vor 15 Jahren anders gemacht?
Vince lacht: „Diese Frage stürzt mich in eine totale Sinnkrise. Ich glaube, dass alles was passiert aus einem bestimmten Grund passiert. Deshalb hätte ich nichts geändert. Nicht jede Entscheidung kann im Leben richtig sein oder auch falsch.
Ich möchte vor allem auf meine Grundsätze nicht verzichten oder diese ändern: Sex, Art und Rock’n’roll. So heißt auch mein Buch. Ein best of der ersten Jahre von „The Art of Vince Voltage“.“
Es wird nun Zeit für meine finale Frage, bevor ich dein Rockerherz noch mehr erweiche. Wenn dich für eine Minute alle Menschen auf der Welt hören können, was sagst du ihnen?
„Fuck ART, let´s fuck! Das ist der Spruch für meine Werbekondome. Die gehen weg wie die Sau! Auf die AVANTGARDISTA 2019 werde ich sicher welche mitnehmen.“

The Art of Vince Voltage – I’m f#cking hungry
Every artist dreams of it: a vernissage at which hip art dealers fight over the works. For Vince Voltage, this has become reality.
He places well-formed naked womens bums on lobster or sushi. With his orchestral series, in which his models push wind instruments into their butts, he triggers an outcry on the social web and the art scene. Photoshop or fact? Today I ask the new star directly.
„I am over 18 years old“, I confirm when I enter the website of the artist Vince Voltage. Three womens butts stretch out towards me, jump at me. The model spreads her ass with her hands and gives an unfiltered view of anus and vagina. The work of art with this woman, three times the same, retouched from dark to light-skinned, bears the title „buttholes of the world“. The message for me is: We are all the same – and somehow also ass.
Vince Voltage photographs, but also plays guitar at the band PUSSY SISSTER. He has been touring Europe with the band for five years and has already released his first solo album. „We don’t make ultra-hard music, but play hard rock in the style of BON JOVI or MÖTLEY CRÜE“, says the Nürtingen-born. A passionate heart, cowboy boots and a tough upper body – there’s plenty of rock star attitude. What about groupies, I want to know. Vince is grinning: „Groupies are always welcome! They should bring their friends and mothers with them. Joking aside, because I make art out of my own conviction and love, not because of groupies.“

„I’ve been a wild guy since I was 16 years old, I have long hair and everything that goes with it. Partly I was also the typical nightmare of my parents and teachers, rebellious adolescence“, he tells me during his walk through his living room while we talked. A quirk, Vince tells me later: „I just can’t sit still“. It’s a shame that we only talk on the phone and I can only imagine: He keeps walking back and forth with western boots, cowboy hat, naked.
To study photography or to read the instructions of the camera? This was never a topic for the autodidact, who quickly became a luminary on his terrain.
„Party animal“ as soul animal
A vernissage of „The Art of Vince Voltage“ can escalate. So the exhibition „Digital Art Jesus“ recently went a little out of hand and in the early hours of the morning it was more of a middle thing between party and orgy, I’m told from a sure source. Sebastian von Outlaw, visitor and model, still adores this event. That’s the way it is, if an artist carries the party animal as a soul animal in himself. A hedonistic party with Studio 54 vibes is pre-programmed.
A new star in the sky for provocative art sparkles towards me. Maybe the new Josefsohn or Richardson on the horizon. Publications in Mercedes Benz Magazine or commissions from Hugo Boss accompany the rise of Vince Voltage in the world of digital art – an outstanding artist.
From the music business you have come to photography and also into the genre „fetish“. How did this come about?
Vince: „I started photographing when I was on tour with the PUSSY SISSTER. Even back then, the unusual aroused my interest more than normal motives.
The jump to fetish? Specifically, it was due to Seann from JADED JEWALL, which is why I cooperate with him. He is a fashion designer and at the same time my favourite designer for CyberPunk Fetish stuff. In my photos I use his designs. I am very grateful towards him for this and consider it a great sign of confidence. He believed in me from the very beginning, because I had already been sent material when I didn’t even have references like today. JADED JEWALL also partly decides on the models, styles them and thinks about the outfits. He is a good friend and also a part of my art.
But I also work together with other designers like Mark Cordory, Maskenzauber Berlin, Dreamwarrior Design, Rad Roach Gear, Wondersteam Boutique or Dust Monkey, to name a few.“
Cowboy boots and wild life. Does your day start with whiskey and end as soon as the sun rises? What does a typical Vince Voltage day look like?
„A day starts early and ends late. I spend every free minute on my art. My alarm clock has a hard job and rings for a long time. My credo to wake up: Be awesome today. But, coffee first!““
When I look at your art, I associate a little of Daniel Josefsohn: „Life is a halfpipe“. Do you want to be provocative with your photos or what is your message?
„Art doesn’t always have to have a deep meaning. With a Playmate nobody asks themselves: What does the photographer want to tell us in a deeper sense when he photographs a woman’s body in perfection on silk bed linen?
„Helmet with flesh“ is an announcement in the sense that it draws attention to the decadence of the Western world. Cattle farming, hunger and we have the audacity to stick meat to a football helmet and then throw it in the trash.
Viewers can decide for themselves what they see. A secret message, depth-psychological approaches or whether they are simply made visually horny.“
With the portrait of a woman in a cheese helmet, a friend says, „That’s how I like cheese.“ How did you come up with such an idea?
„The ideas always find me. I lie awake at night and then the flash of inspiration comes. If you love what you do, you find inspiration in yourself. I get the most enlightenment through music and travel. During my shootings music is always playing.“
Shitstorm – it already existed but we’ll come to that later. Other interesting feedbacks, what else moved you?
„The current sales figures of my book. Feels awesome. Then my vernissage „Digital Art Jesus“ was hyped very much by social media. It was of course great that visitors shared their enthusiasm about it publicly. Vipers Doll with a mask in front of a pink background, the cover of my current illustrated book, was bought by an art collector. He stores it as an investment. It’s really awesome that people buy my photos as an investment. I never dreamed that this would happen to me.
The wind instruemt, was that really inserted rectally? The trompet – maybe I tricked there… I’m just telling you: A whole orchestra will follow in the series „ass orchestra series“.“
In November 2016 you had an exhibition at the House of Economy in Stuttgart. Were there also exhibitions like „buttholes of the world“ or were you more tamed?
„I have presented my work in the district court and in the house of the economy in Stuttgart and that without restriction of my picture selection. I exhibited my first picture series „Iron Republic“ there. There were skeptics only in the district court and the women’s rights commissioner and refugee commissioner approached me because of complaints. In the end, however, freedom of art won and the exhibition remained open. But my greatest feedback was actually a negative feedback: exhibition ban, because my pictures were too blatant for the gallery – very fancy actually. It was already an award, because this scandal made waves and gave me full attention. Other artists then printed themselves shirts with one of my artworks as a statement about artistic freedom.“
The „ass trumpet“ has made waves, from contemptuous of women to tasteless. How do you deal with this criticism?
„I’m used to shitstorms and see it as a compliment. My series „girls on food“ had themes with naked female bottoms sitting on lobster or spaghetti – but it was sushi of all things that made people boil over. Sushi triggered emotions. Sushi shocked. Maybe at some point I’ll find out why sushi of all things, but not the lifeless lobster, caused so much outrage.“
Your art looks like a lot of fun and often takes my breath away. Do you have goals and where do you want to go with your art?
Vince laughs: „Sure, I want world domination. But first I want to have more international exhibitions. I would like to shoot Dj Ötzi’s album cover. And with Fabz Black, a photographer friend from Berlin and also somehow an Instagram rival, I would love to be on the cover of the „Happy Weekend“. There is no limit for me.
The next dates for 2019 are the Obsession Bizzar in Hamburg in February and in August I’ll have another solo exhibition. For November I have already marked the AVANTGARDISTA in Munich in my calendar.“
You visited the AVANTGARDISTA 2018 personally. What did you do there?
„Amongst other things, I experienced the aftershow as a guest, because a place at the bar is never wrong. For ARTIFICIAL DOWNTOWN I was a model myself – which was great. CyberPunk is simply the fashion theme that is on the rise.
Latex – the first time in my life on myself! And a completely new experience for me. I got a good tip from an insider: „You have nothing under it, Vince – always shake well and clean!“
Of course I was also there as a photographer and took pictures of the group ARTIFICIAL DOWNTOWN.
Unfortunately I arrived too late with my crew and we missed the fashion shows. But at the photo box I could still see many models in their outfits of the designers. Fabulous, unusual and unique creations. That impressed me very much and I was annoyed that we missed the Runway Shows.
The AVANTGARDISTA has flashed me so very much, I will show there an exclusive exhibition next year.“
Quite often I see food in many variations in your photos. What’s it all about?
„I like food and naked women – it’s that simple. „girls on food“ and „sausage series“ are prime examples there.“
Fetish – also a topic for you personally?
„Squares, definitely. I like squares. Square fetish.“ 😉
Mickey Mouse is not dead! Your self-portrait shows you with cigar, plush and oversized Mickey Mouse ears, suspenders, trained but dirty upper body and as eye-catcher a neon pink net glove.
„Thanks for your compliment on my body! In my pictures you can find a certain dichotomy. As well as in me and my self-portrait. Cheerful and dark elements meet each other, so the ambivalent creates an atmosphere. To unite many supposed contradictions in one picture is a magic of „The Art of Vince Voltage“.
I unite things that don’t seem to go together at first glance. That’s why the different finishes of the photos are illuminated in dark or bright.“
Artist and musician at the same time. I also imagine it to be somehow exhausting. How do you still get everything under one roof?
„By not sleeping much. Lots of coffee! Lots of coffee, did I say that already? Coffee.“
Me as your model? Which food would you combine me with?
„I always discuss this with the models what they want and we find out what fits. But I’ll tell you one thing: With chicken wings and very brave – this will be your station wagon.“
