benno von stein – magic moments made for love

„benno von stein“, dahinter steckt Christoph Pohl, ein spiritueller und kreativer Mensch. Während er die ein oder andere buddhistische Weisheit in unser Interview einfließen lässt, stellen wir beide fest, dass wir auf unseren Kaffee am Morgen nicht verzichten können. Christoph genießt diesen am liebsten in seinem Garten, hier könne er gut nachdenken und bekomme Input vom „Global Brain“, so der Designer.
Du nimmst zum wiederholten Mal an der Avantgardista teil. Was hat dir so gut gefallen?
Christoph Pohl: „Die erste Veranstaltung ist immer ein Abenteuer, du weißt nie wie eine Show läuft, aber auf Christian Eberle, den Producer der Avantgardista, ist immer Verlass. Er hat alles von Anfang an im Griff und hat ein Gespür für Trends, er gibt den Designer Rückenwind und Support. Cool war natürlich auch die Aftershow Party der SubRosaDictum.
Zudem war die Spannbreite der verschiedenen Designer enorm. Besonders gespannt bin ich auch dieses Jahr auf die Designer, die, wie ich nicht mit Latex arbeiten.
Sehr gefreut hat mich, dass viele Leute nach meiner Show auf mich zukamen und begeistert waren, sie hatten sozusagen „Feenstaub“auf den Schultern, das „Bling-Bling“ in den Augen. Diese magischen Momente sind der Grund, warum ich wieder dabei bin. Magische Momente sind mein Fetisch.“
Deine letzte Show erinnert mich sehr an Science-Fiction, wie im Film „Matrix“. Woher nimmst du deine Ideen?
„Meine Inspiration bekomme ich beispielsweise von den Menschen auf Partys selbst, z.B. wie sie sich kleiden und bewegen, wie sie miteinander umgehen. Sowas inspiriert mich. Die Homage an die Weiblichkeit ist auch immer ein Muss für mich. Wenn eine Frau in meinen Showroom kommt, „ihr“ Kleid anzieht und mit neuem Selbstbewusstsein geht – das ist auch ein magischer Moment.
Ich bin ein großer Science-Fiction Fan, und der Film „Matrix“ beeindruckte mich durch die verschiedenen Handlungsebenen. Dort gibt es eine Szene in einem Alternative-Lifestyle-Club, die ich bis heute liebe. Du siehst, dass ich meine Ideen aus vielen Kanälen empfange. Und meine größte Muse ist immer wieder meine Frau Claudia.“
Was können wir denn Neues erwarten?
„Der Harness steht bei mir im Vordergrund, wobei auch natürlich tolle Feiergarderobe und auch mehr Farbe dabei sein werden. Wir gehen dieses Jahr deutlich mehr in den Bereich Fashion, neue Federaccessoires und neue Materialien. Freut euch auf ein atemberaubenes Rot! Natürlich gibt es auch noch einige „Secrets“.“
Christoph, klassischer Werdegang zum Designer, oder aufgewacht und losgelegt?
„Ich komme aus einer Hutmacher-Familie. Meine Großmutter war „Putzmacherin“. Putz nannte man früher den Schmuck am Hut. Auf ihrer alten  Tretnähmaschine habe ich das Nähen gelernt.
Dazu fällt mir auch ein Schwank aus meiner Jugend ein: Ich hatte durch Zufall einen Schwung Lederteile bekommen, die die Form von „Brezeln“ hatten. Diese habe ich zu einer Art „Schuppenpanzer“ vernäht und innerhalb von 6 Wochen einen Mantel konzipiert. Nachdem ich mit dem Werk in die Schule ging, ausgelacht wurde, und dann doch als Star in der Zeitung landete, war der Grundstein als Fashiondesigner gelegt und so wurde ich diplomierter Modedesigner und Herrenmaßschneider.“
Was war das schönste Kompliment, was du bekommst hast?
„Auf einer Messe kam ein Paar auf meinen Stand und schaute sich eine Weile um. Die Dame kleidete sich dann komplett in meine Kreationen. Ich erinnere mich gut an das Kleid mit Plisseekragen. Als ihr Mann sie von oben bis unten anschaute, ließ er es eine Weile auf sich wirken und sagte dann: „Oh Liebling, in dem Kleid würde ich dich nochmal heiraten.“ – Und alle Frauen drumherum mit großem Raunen: „Oooooohh…..“. Das fand ich super, diese Liebeserklärung!“
Das Label „benno von stein“  – wer steckt dahinter, was ist das Besondere?
„Meine Frau Claudia und ich stecken hinter unserer Firma „benno von stein“. Wir arbeiten mit kleineren Nähereien zusammen und wollen die Menschen kennen, die an der Nähmaschine sitzen. Das ganze Produkt ist „fairtrade“ und unsere Qualität hat ihren Preis. Das kommt von der Produktion und vom Material. Würde ich Menschen ausbeuten, hätten die Kleidungsstücke keine Energie. Meine Designs wirken wie Endorphine. Es soll knistern, wenn man meine Sachen trägt. Wir machen Mode „made for love“!“

Was fasziniert dich am Designen?
„Ein „Lucky Shirt“ für jemanden zu entwerfen. Das ist die Bekleidung, in der du deinen Partner fürs Leben findest. Da gibt es diese zauberhafte Nacht, wo alles beginnt, und diese Energie bleibt ein Leben lang in diesem Kleidungsstück. Man erinnert sich immer wieder an diesen Moment – es ist unvergesslich.“
Gibt es ein Lucky Shirt für dich, ein Meisterstück?
„Der Mantel von Honeyhair ist im Moment mein persönliches Highlight . Er ist so aufwendig und wird nur auf Maß gearbeitet und falls den einer kopieren will, bricht er sich die Hände. Ganz klar: Wenn man als kreativer Mensch nicht stolz auf seine Werke ist, soll man lieber etwas anderes tun!“
Dein Erfolgsgeheimnis?
„Wenn ich im Flow bin, fließen die Ideen mit Leichtigkeit, ähnlich wie beim Sportler der Supersauerstofflauf – er läuft und läuft…“

„benno von stein“, that’s Christoph Pohl, a spiritual and creative person. While he inserts some Buddhist wisdom in our interview, we both realize that we cannot do without our early morning coffee. Christoph enjoys it best in his garden, where he can think well and gets input from the „Global Brain“, says the designer.
You are taking part at the Avantgardista again. What did you like so much about the last one?
Christoph Pohl: „The first event is always an adventure, you never know how a show works. But you can always rely on Christian Eberle, the producer of the Avantgardista. He has everything under control from the beginning and has a feeling for trends, he gives the designer tailwind and support. Of course the aftershow party of the SubRosaDictum was also cool.
And the range of the different designers was enormous. I’m again especially excited about the designers who, like me, don’t work with latex.
I was very happy that many people came up to me after my show and were enthusiastic, they had „fairy dust“ on their shoulders, the „bling-bling“ in their eyes. These magic moments are the reason I’m back again. Magic moments are my fetish.“
Your last show reminds me a lot of science-fiction, like in the movie „Matrix“. Where do you get your ideas from?
„I get my inspiration for example from the people at parties themselves. How they dress and move, how they interact. It inspires me. Homage to femininity is also always a must-have for me and when a woman comes into my showroom, puts on „her“ dress and leaves with new self-confidence – that is also a magical moment.
I’m a big science-fiction fan, and the movie „Matrix“ impressed me with the different levels of action. There’s a scene in a alternative lifestyle club that I still love today.
You see, I get my ideas from many channels. And my greatest muse is always my wife Claudia.“
What can we expect to see?
The harness is in the foreground and there will of course be great festive wardrobes, and also more color. This year, we are going into the fashion sector, showing new feather accessories and new materials. Look forward to a breathtaking red! Of course there are also some „secrets“.“

Christoph, a classic career as a designer, or woke up and started?
„I come from a family of hatters. My grandmother was a „Putzmacherin“. „Putz“ used to be called jewellery at a hat. On her old pedal sewing machine I learned how to sew.
A story from my youth: By chance I had gotten a swing of leather parts that had the form of „pretzels“. I sewed them into a kind of „scale armour“ and designed a coat within 6 weeks. After I went to school with that piece, was laughed at, and then ended up in the newspaper as a star, the foundation stone was laid for being a fashion designer and so I became a qualified fashion designer and men’s tailor.“
What was the nicest compliment you got?
„At a fair a couple came to my booth and looked around for a while. The lady then dressed herself completely in my creations. I remember that dress with the pleated collar very well. When her husband looked at her from top to bottom, he let it affect him for a while and then said: „Oh darling, in that dress I would marry you again.“ – And all the women around it with a big murmur: „Oooooohh……“. I thought that was great, this declaration of love!“
The label „benno von stein“ – who is behind it, what is so special?
„“benno von stein“ is our company, my wife Claudia and I. We work with smaller sewing companies, we want to know the people sitting at the sewing machine. We work „fairtrade“ and our quality has its price. It comes from both production and material. If I would exploit people, the clothes would have no energy. My designs act like endorphins. I want it to crackle when people wear my clothes. We make fashion „made for love“!“
What fascinates you about design?
„Designing a „lucky shirt“ for someone. That’s the garment you’ll find your partner for life in. There’s this lovely night where it all starts. And this energy remains in this clothes for a lifetime. You always remember this moment – it’s unforgettable.“
Is there a „lucky shirt“ for you, a masterpiece?
„The coat from model Honeyhair is my personal highlight right now. It is so elaborate and is only made to measure. If anyone wants to copy it, he’ll break his hands. Clearly, if you are not proud of your work as a creative person, you should do something else!“
The secret of your success?
„When I am in flow, the ideas flow with ease, similar to an athlete’s super oxygen run – he runs and runs…“
